For over 25 years, I have made a commitment to work with historically excluded communities to become central stakeholders in their/our communities. As an immigrant to the United States from Mexico City almost 45 years ago and as a member of LGBTQ community, my lived experiences have shaped my philosophy that diversity is what makes us different while inclusion is how we incorporate those differences that yield stronger institutions and communities of belonging.
I have contributed my lived experiences, professional and educational skills to complex institutions in valuing the uniqueness of individuals and welcoming a broad spectrum of people. With a focus on leadership development, strategic planning, diversity, equity, inclusion & belonging as well as human resources, and volunteer and community engagement, these institutions, they have become more diverse, inclusive, and a place of belonging for staff and change agents for their communities. My professional career has also developed me to be a vibrant, credible leader who will understand and embrace change, courageously engage multiple stakeholders, guide inputs to action, and be welcoming and comfortable working with a broad array of diverse stakeholders.
During my professional career I have:
Over 10+ years of leadership experience leading and building teams with direct reports from 3 up to 10 people.
Participated and/or led people-centered change management strategic plans.
Provided transformative staff leadership development through training, coaching, mentoring, and mediation.
Financial acumen through execution and overseeing budgets ranging from $1.5M up to $5M.
Led efforts to restructure departments and programs to be more efficient and effective to better meet the needs of the organization and communities.
Identify and execute process improvement management systems (HRIS systems, performance reviews, etc.).
Overseen risk and compliance management of local, state, and federal obligation.
Worked as part of management team with local bargaining units to establish and negotiate labor contracts.
Successfully fundraised approximately $1M to execute programmatic functions, annual organizational events, and election campaigns.
Built and managed strong external partnerships/networks within diverse sectors.
Overall, my experience has focused on fostering an organizational culture of engagement to ensure belonging is at the center where people enjoy being at work.
